1. Play-based Classroom
Ms. Gina challenged herself to research and use her experiences to create a wonderful learner-centered environment for her preschoolers. She adopted many of the Reggio Emilia ideas for her classroom arrangement and organization which allows students to learn through play and engagement with materials. She offers several insightful tips on what to keep in mind and questions to ask when creating classroom centers. A few wise ideas from her classroom include the thoughtful use of lighting keeping in mind that we do not have to limit ourselves to the bright fluorescent lights over head, everthing on the shelves should be arranged by color and clearly labeled for easy access for the developing readers, and every classroom should have seating for parents and visitors to sit and enjoy the learning taking place. 2. Mrs. Mayas' Kindergarten
This blog was created by a veteran teacher who loves color and patterns. This learning environment appears to be a teacher-centered classroom arranged with spacing appropriate for early learners to learn the rigorous structure of a fully functioning classroom. Some great inspiration from Mrs. Mayas kindergarten classroom includes creative storage units and mini trash cans at each learning table to avoid frequent traffic in the room, a small group cart equipped with a white board and neat buckets filled with supplies needed for small groups, very durable line placement floor number decals for ease of line up procedure, a colorfully patterned curtain to hide storage and creatively use space, and last but not least is the upper loft area for reading which looks so cozy and homelike that it can be confused for a napping space. Her blog has quick links to share all of her themed ideas. Access Mrs. Mayas's website at mrsmayaskinders.blogspot.com.
3. First Grade Fancy
Ms. Meghan created a visually pleasing modern sheek looking first grade room with highly organized spaces for storage, learning, social interaction, and student responsibility. This also appears to be a teacher-centered classroom with learning centers for the students to have independent and group learning experiences. Highlights from this blog are the great teacher resources for activities, the bucket filler system for promotion of positive behavior, and the cozy work space and reading couch for creative thinking. She also has wonderful lessons on organizing student websites as well as a vast list of center websites for inspiration. View her blog at http://firstgradefancy.blogspot.com/.
3. Mrs. Olson's Lucky Little Learners
This fun super organized classroom his set up for the success of Mrs. Olson's third grade students. Everything is professionally organized, labeled and in a very precise place. Noteworthy points to share from her blog are the (my favorite) neatly organized and labeled drawers for all supplies possibly needed by the teacher, sub, volunteers, and student teachers. This makes it so much easier to find things in a hurry. Also, Mrs. Olson gives instruction on using the "Brag tag" system to promote positive behavior. She also has many inspirational quotes good for teachers needing a lift or smile. Find her website at http://luckylittlelearners.blogspot.ca/p/my-classroom.html.
